The Woodland Stair

For this design, I had to chose my planting very carefully as there is limited light due to it's North-facing position. The lowest level sits in deep shade most of the year around so I chose plants like Japanese Skimmia,  Mahonia Confusa and Barrenworts. These species can survive in this frost pocket and are semi-evergreen perennials.

I chose plants like Golden Leather Fern, Japanese Snowball and French Hydrangea for the middle level as they thrive in dappled shade and Viburnums flower from November to March. The top layer consists of Silver Birch, Rowans and Red-flowering Currants as these plants thrive in high amounts of sunlight and provide beautiful foliage in the warmer months.

Olive Retreat, Tuscany

This concept design was created in response to a brief from a client who is based in Tuscany and needs a minimalist Mediterranean style garden that is low maintenance too due to their busy lifestyle.

I used plants like Olea Europea, Salvia Rosmarinus and Thymus Vulgaris as these species thrive in high heat and little rain fall. The light coloured paving and render adds to the Mediterranean feel by enhancing brightness within the space.

Meeting Room, Worthing

Here is my current project that I'm working on with Victoria, her client is having an outdoor meeting room built and wants the landscape designed too. It is South-facing and experiences moderate wind levels. I chose Olive Trees and New Zealand Flax for architectural structure, they are evergreen too and won't sulk in the sun or wind.

There is a shaded area where I planted a row of Bamboo as they can survive in lower light levels and screen the fence. The rest of the planting consists of Lavender, Rosemary, Cotton Lavender and Sea Thrifts as these attract wildlife and create a beautiful aroma.

Based in South-East England.
